Child Support

The Law is about interpretation and communication. When it comes to Child Support a few factors could complicate the issue.  These issues could be, but are not limited to, Custody, employment and residential status.  Our Attorneys are experienced in Family Law, and will help you optimize your options and opportunities that you would not otherwise have.

Our Attorneys are skilled at helping clients make the process of Child Support as civil and uncomplicated as possible.  This saves you both time and money.  However, if the Opposing Side does not hold these ideals in high regard, we will be prepared to litigate at trial as zealously as necessary.

Common questions asked regarding Child Support:

Besides Child Support, are their other exspenses I may be responsible for?         Yes.  The Court may also require you to provide financial assistance for health insurance, child care, doctor bills, dental bills, and transportation, among other bills.

My ex now has another family to support.  Does this affect my 'Child Support Order'?
Yes.  The amount of the Child Support may be lowered due to the fact that they have another family that they must support now.

How is Child Support calculated?
Child Support is generally governed by the California State/Guidelines.  The factors used in the calculations include, among other factors, both parents' gross incomes, percentage the child(ren) spends with each parent and cost of health insurance.

How do I enforce an existing Child Support Order?
You collect the monthly Child Support payment by either serving a Wage Assignment on the payee's employer, or, if they are self-employed or unemployed file an Order To Show Cause in re Contempt, if they fail to pay timely and consistently on their own.

Our office also handles:

  • Modifications
  • Injunctive Order
  • Establishing Paternity
  • Establishing Arrears
You may file directly with your county on these issues.  However, the Child Support Office does not and will not represent you or your child(ren).  Retaining an Attorney is a very difficult decision.  Attorney B J Fadem is well-respected in all the Counties of Northern California for her skill, style, legal knowledge, and commitment to her Clients Rights.
